Hey guys, I have a final paper to write that is about car culture and would love it if you can help me here. I need to include some interviews, so if you can help me answer these questions that would be awesome.

1. What is your name. (Just your first is fine)

2. What sparked your interest?

3. Why do you still love cars?

4. What do you want people to know about car culture (assuming they don’t know much)

Thanks ahead of time!!

1. Justin

2. Getting my license and watching my first episode of Top Gead

3. It’s therapy, it’s a clean hobby, and it’s kept me out of trouble (for the most part)

4. What you see on TV/youtube, is far from what it really is like. We like having fun, but we also aren’t idiots

1: Dylan

2: My dad showing me pictures of his previous cars (1971 Monte Carlo, 1986 iroc-z, 1990 Taurus SHO) as a kid.

3: They are freedom, they don’t complain about me.

4: That we accept all cars, no matter the make, body style, transmission, and driven wheels.

2. Parents and Grandparents who are car guys, and a 1 ton Dodge pickup without mufflers.

3. Cars are integral to how society, especially in the U.S., functions. They’re also one of the most expensive pieces of sculpture that most people will ever own.

4. Car culture isn’t just about Ferraris and Lamborghinis, Corvettes and Mustangs, or Supras and GT-Rs. It’s also about 4WD Toyota Tercels, FiSTs, Miatas, ŠKODAs, Citroëns, or whatever you drive/are passionate about. Also, the Espada is the best Lamborghini.

very nice collection - 71' Monte, 86 Iroc and an original 90 SHO? Loved the 1st gen SHO vs. 5.0 Mustang competition at the time - the ‘Stang would be out in front from the start, but that SHO would hunt it down on the top end.

1 - Vince B

2 - Been obsessed since I was a little kid. Headed to school for a degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in Combustion. The rest is history.

3 - Because there are few other mechanical objects that have such personality. Look at this computer that I’m using. It is a PC. I’ve built it from scratch myself (many times over, recently added a solid state drive and it boots like a Porsche 918) but otherwise I could care less if it blew up and I had to replace it tomorrow (aside from the cost). The 69 Fastback in my garage...or the STi in my driveway...you’d better bet your bottom dollar that I’d care if they got hit by an asteroid. Why? Because they have personality, history, some bashes/quirks. Are they perfect? Nope. But I’ve turned just about every nut/bolt on that Mustang and I can tell when it isn’t happy.

4 - I want people to know that I don’t want to ruin our planet by covering it with a hazy fog of gasoline and tire smoke...but sometimes my foot slips.

Yes, an original 90 SHO. My dad only sold it because my mom had hard time driving the 5spd when she was pregnant with me. It was also too small for 2 little kids (My sister was 3 when I was born).

1) Adam

2) I come from a family of car people. My folks weren’t gear heads but our cars were never boring. I’ve loved them my entire life. I remember seeing a countach for the first time and I was hooked on the exotic and weird.

3) I love cars today because they make me happy. I love learning about cars, talking about cars, and driving them. I’ve had a rough year and most days a nice drive in my STi makes it better.

4) I want people to know that most car guys are good people. Were not all street racers, some of us are just nerds with a passion for automobiles and a love of speed.

Any other questions

1. Chris

2. Watching top gear as a kid and going to car/airshows at my local airport.

3. theres always something new and exciting going on and new people to talk to plus i love working on and modifying my own cars (prior to my 350z i owned a 94 Wrangler YJ that i spent way too much money modifying but i loved every minute of my driveway wrenching.)

4. there is a place for everyones interests. You like technology and sustainability? heres tesla, koenigsegg and new volvo. You like things that go crazy fast? exotics muscle cars imports take your pic. Going slow over rocks/mud your thing? right this way to Tuck Yeah! jeeps, land rovers etc. Are you like oppo and is your favorite car a brown volvo wagon or a red miata with googly eyes in the pop up headlights? yea we got somewhere for you to hang out too.

Also most of us hate street racing because of the dangers presented to the public and ourselves. the guys that do that are irresponsible dickheads that in know way represent car culture as a whole.

1. Tyler

2. Dad was a huge car guy, would take me to shows and meetups as a kid and it kind of grew from there

3. I love how cars can be all things to all men. A car can be your temple of solace, where you go unwind and relax and forget about all your problems, if just for a fifteen-minute run up and down a backroad. When all else fails and life gets too crazy to handle, it can be the one constant that you can rely on, safely ferrying you from point A to point B every day for work or carrying you and your possessions from one part of your life to another. It can also be a status symbol, a car that proudly proclaims your enthusiasm with an M or RS or AMG or SVT badge, or one that personifies your role in the world. More importantly, I think a car can become more than just a car; what it means to you and the memories you make in it transform an assembly of steel, glass, and plastic into something far more special than the other things you own. Whether it be delusional anthropomorphism or a result of genuine inspiration, your car has a personality and soul and the relationship you have with it is completely unique to you and you alone, and no other worldly possession compares.

4. Car culture is more than just Fast and Furious fanboys or stancebros or slack-jawed Mustang owners. All kinds of people, from those interested in off-roaders to Edwardian racecars to K-cars and beyond, are interested in cars and as such, you can find your niche in whatever corner of the enthusiast world you want.

Exactly! I can't help that my favorite thing in the world is also polluting the planet. I'll do everything else to help but not give up gas powered cars. Mechanical engineer with a STI, why am I not shocked?

it took me a year after graduating to find a good job in my field. the year between graduating and finding the job i had a stepping stone entry level job at a local airport. graduating is a bit of an adjustment but overall its good to be out in the world making money and having fun.
